Brought to Brazil in the early 16th century by the Portuguese colonizers, the Rabeca (or fiddle) became very useful in popular feasts and several forms of folk expression. This instrument can be easily adapted originating a number of different models. Today, rabeca makers and players can be found everywhere in this country.

It is interesting to notice that its sound can be associated to that of the baroque violin, which is probably why the rabeca is being sought after by both classical and popular musicians.

The Dantas-Barreto rabeca was developed after an intense and serious research on the different models and characterístics of the instrument. Since it can be found in several Brazilian regions, with a number of small variations, one can easily say that this model summarizes what is known as the "Brazilian Violin".

This project has been developed thanks to the support and encouragement of this great artist Antonio Nóbrega.
